Why in Europe and America stopped using coconut mattresses for children

Preschool children are advised to sleep about 12 hours, and babies from 2 to 4 years old - all 16 hours. That is, a child can spend a little less than half his life in a dream! Impressive! But after all during sleep, growth, the formation of internal organs and skeleton do not stop. The muscles in the dream have not relaxed enough - please, scoliosis or poor posture. And if toxic materials are added to the mattress?

Today, an exotic product is popular in the domestic market: a children's mattress with a natural filler from coconut coir. Manufacturers usually position it as a natural product with increased strength and rigidity (very handy for kids under three years old). Is the baby destined to discover the coconut paradise in the crib? Let's try to figure it out.

Coconut mattresses for children

A big plus of such mattresses is that coconut fibers are plant and safe. They may be called hay, grass, or comb. Woody vascular bundles have a length of 15-33 cm and a thickness of 0.05-0.3 mm.

But not everything is so simple in production. For the strength of the product, it is necessary to connect the beams using special means. Or strongly compress them. From here two scenarios:

  • latexing;
  • pressing.

First option

The manufacturer uses a latex emulsion for bonding (water + synthetic rubber particles + polymer additives). The volume of such a mixture in the finished product reaches 60% or more. A very natural product, isn't it?

It is difficult to find natural rubber latex. Usually, synthetic is used in production, whose composition is very close to the composition of latex for gloves, balls etc.

Second option

To reduce the cost of production, pressing is ideal. As a result, needle-sewn mats for the mattress are obtained. But quality is poor. Products can not withstand loads for a long time, pressed coconut fibers crumble strongly and even turn into dust ...

Important! Americans and Europeans do not produce coconut slabs for mattresses. Neither in quality nor in safety do these products meet the requirements.

Than a coconut mattress can be dangerous for a child

Synthetics and odor

The manufacturer may be proud of the naturalness of the coconut fiber mattress, but because of the use of synthetic mixtures, it does not smell there. And it smells (sometimes sharply) of car tires!

Dangerous compound

What else could be a coconut mattress for children?

May manifest latex allergy as:

  • difficulty breathing;
  • skin problems;
  • anaphylaxis;
  • in some cases, death is possible.

Harmful to the child’s body and formaldehydeswhich for adults are usually safe in small doses.

Moisture absorption

In doubt and moisture absorption. Manufacturers claim that the product with an exotic filler practically does not retain moisture. But what about the fact that farmers note the high ability of coconut to retain moisture?

Important! If you do not ventilate and dry the mattress, it will become a wonderful clearing for decay and development of fungi, mold.

Low strength

What about the fact that coconut filler crumbles and soon you will have to forget about the direct functions of the mattress? There will be dust in the lungs and a shapeless product, waiting in the dustbin.

To summarize

Perhaps there are coconut products that are safe and comfortable for sleeping. It seems to me that the price of this product should be high, and the product has been tested by time and several generations.

I tend to choose natural and safe products, but I try not to let marketers blush their eyes with such assurances. Minimum - you need to read information about the composition and manufacturer, maximum - to interview friends and try it yourself, and then give it to the baby.

Responsibility for the health of the child can not be 100% shifted to either doctors or entrepreneurs creating goods.
