Laptop screen calibration

Many laptop owners have never calibrated the screen after the acquisition. At the same time, not every device initially has optimal values of brightness, contrast or sharpness of the image. The setup procedure is quite simple. Having made several manipulations and having spent on it a minimum of time, it is possible to receive the most high-quality image on the display of the laptop.

Preparing to calibrate the laptop screen

Before proceeding with the direct configuration of the display device, you must perform a series of simple, but mandatory, manipulations.

It is recommended to do the following:

  1. Reset the graphics adapter to factory settings.
  2. A very important indicator is the temperature of the device matrix. It should be uniform. To achieve this, you must include a video file, with a total duration of about 5 hours. The media player must be pre-rotated full screen. Thus, the matrix of the laptop will have the same temperature readings over the entire surface.
  3. Next, you need to choose the right lighting. First, it is desirable to ensure its stability. The optimal setting will be in the afternoon. In this case, the lighting will be the most stable and calm. Do not forget that the laptop screen tends to distort color depending on the viewing angle.
  4. For the calibration to be performed as efficiently as possible, the eyes must be exactly in the center of the screen.

Attention! The calibration process is individual. This is explained by the fact that people's eyes perceive the same picture differently. Therefore, you must perform it yourself.

Screen Calibration Methods

In order to customize the display of the laptop, you can use one of two methods - hardware or software. The best and easiest is the software option. It is easy to implement, but does not allow to achieve the same result as the hardware.

The hardware version is more complex. It requires a certain qualification, the availability of special equipment and the installation of the necessary software.

This method consists of three stages:

  • adjustment of the basic graphic indicators of the device matrix, which is performed so as to correspond to certain parameters of the spectrophometer and installed utilities;
  • reconfiguring the video card to the linear mode;
  • testing the system and saving the settings made in the appropriate file on the laptop.

Reference! To somewhat simplify the procedure for hardware calibration of a laptop display, you can pre-print a color image that will serve as a reference. After that, by changing the required parameters of the screen to achieve the best fit of the image on the laptop screen and the reference image.

Calibrating the laptop screen using programs

You can adjust the optimal image with the help of several programs. First of all, you can use the standard Windows tools. For this you need:

  1. Go to the "Search" and dial "Calibration." A window will open in which to go.
  2. Select "Calibrate screen colors" and click "Next."
  3. Follow the prompts "Calibration Wizard" to perform the necessary settings.
  4. After that, you need to save the changes and close the program.

You can also use special programs. One of the most popular is - Atrise Lutcurve. It has a simple and intuitive interface, with a fully Russified menu.

The essence of the display settings using this program is to change the main characteristics - "Black", R, G and B. Their value is required to change until the corresponding squares are visible. In this case, the background should remain as black as possible.

  1. First set up white. The resulting color should be as neutral as possible and not have any shades.
  2. Next, the gamma setting is performed. The colors in the respective columns should have minimal differences from the main background.
  3. The next step is "The Balance of Flowers". It is necessary to make so that all tones of gray were practically discolored.

If the screen is configured correctly, then the gray tones on the test image of the utility will be uniform. The presence of any other shades of colors is not allowed.

Screen calibration is not a required setting of the laptop. However, it allows you to achieve the highest quality image on the display device. This is especially important for people involved in photography or design.
