DIY crafts from the substrate under the laminate

If you are a creative person and from time to time spend your leisure time creating crafts from various materials at hand, then you probably know what a substrate for a laminate is and how it can be used. If not, we will talk about it and share interesting options for its application.

First, let's figure out what it is. This is a building material, so you need to look for it in the appropriate store. Such a substrate is made of different materials and can be of several shades. It remains only to choose the right one. The substrate is soft, bends well and will last quite a long time, so working with it is a pleasure!

How can you fasten the material? An ordinary needle and thread are perfect for this. The needle will easily enter the substrate and hold the parts firmly.

IMPORTANT! If you want to fasten the parts with glue, be sure to check how well it will connect them on a test piece of the substrate. This is necessary to ensure the strength of the glue. Due to the smooth surface of the material, the parts may not stick together.

How to draw on a substrate

Often you have to work with templates and stencils. Then the question arises: what to draw on the material? The pencil does not print well, so it will be inconvenient to work with it. Instead, take an ordinary ballpoint pen. You will get bright lines, which will then be convenient and easy to wash off. For this, a cotton pad and alcohol will be needed. Moisten cotton wool with alcohol and wipe the surface.

Than cut

In order to cut out the details, you will need sharp scissors and a clerical knife. Cut small and internal parts with a knife, and large external parts with scissors.

IMPORTANT! Before cutting, place a wooden board or special rubber coating under the product so as not to damage the surface of the table.

From this material you can make a lot of beautiful and unusual crafts. Here we will step by step describe the process of creating a casket.

You will need:

  • cork sheet (one type of substrate for a laminate);
  • PVA glue;
  • glue "Moment";
  • acrylic paints;
  • acrylic lacquer;
  • napkins for decoupage;
  • hemp rope;
  • seashells.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Take the box and prime it with acrylic paint. This place will then be decorated using decoupage technique.
  2. Choose a piece of napkin that you like.
  3. Stick a napkin on the primed area with PVA glue.
  4. Repeat all the previous steps, but now stick a napkin on the side of the box.
  5. Glue the empty part of the box with a cork backing. Use glue.
  6. Make a voluminous shell. To do this, cut a few pieces of material along the contour of the shell that you like most, stick them on top of each other and paint over with white acrylic paint.
  7. Stick a piece of napkin with the corresponding image on top of the voluminous shell.
  8. Stick 3D shells on the box (directly on top of the shells shown on the napkin).
  9. Paint over uneven edges with a brown paint using a dry brush.
  10. Stick the rope and varnish the whole box.

In the same way, you can decorate mirror frames, watches, vases and bottles.
