DIY Christmas chest

With the onset of winter, many have a New Year's mood. Streets, shop windows, shops are already decorated everywhere. Charged with this attitude, I want to bring a sense of celebration to my home. In addition to an elegant Christmas tree, I want to add some unusual festive decor to my home. For example, you can make a Christmas chest of Santa Claus.

How to make a Christmas chest yourself

The blank for the chest should be cut from a sheet of cardboard, and then glued along the edges. Or take a ready-made box of the right size. To give the box the shape of a chest, you need to adjust its lid.

  1. To do this, it is necessary to cut the sides in the form of a semicircle from cardboard (it is necessary to cut the margins for gluing along the edges).
  2. Then you need to glue the semicircles on the cover on both sides.
  3. Take a sheet of cardboard and glue it on top to the lid and sides. Thus, the half-cylinder should turn out. It is convenient to use masking tape to create the desired shape.
  4. After the chest is ready, it should be decorated. To do this, you can use decoupage, fabric, self-adhesive paper or paints.

Original ideas of the New Year's chest

Why do we need such a chest? It can be just a Christmas decor item, a surprise gift or just an original gift wrapping. The composition can also be put on the festive table.

Attention! There are plenty of options for decorating: the main thing is to include your imagination and create. Such a nice accessory will certainly attract the attention of both households and guests.

DIY Christmas chest: step by step

What is required:

  1. A decorated box or a ready-made chest;
  2. artificial or natural spruce branches;
  3. floristic sponge;
  4. bumps;
  5. glue gun;
  6. decorations for decor: balls, ribbons;
  7. structural paste and tools for its application.

No one will be able to make a chest, so you can bring children to this occupation. It will be very interesting for them.

  1. First of all, you need to process the cones. Parasites can be inside the flakes, in addition, the surface should be degreased. To do this, they should be washed in water, using any cleaning agent. Then you need to dry the cones properly.
  2. Structural paste is applied to the cones, this will give them a natural snowy appearance. You need to apply the paste along the edges of the scales, without pushing inward. If the mixture is not available, colored semolina can be used.
  3. Put a floral sponge on the bottom of the chest, and trim it if necessary. If live spruce branches are to be used, but the sponge should be wetted, and a film or a plastic bag should be placed at the bottom of the chest.
  4. Stick one branch into a sponge, evenly distributing throughout the area. Ideally, the sponge should not be visible.
  5. Glue snowy cones, beads, berries or something similar on the branches of the spruce.
  6. Tie a decorative ribbon to the bottom of the chest.
  7. Also, for decoration, you can use LED candles by inserting them inside the chest. It is dangerous to use real candles in such a design, especially if the chest is made of cardboard.

If you plan to present such a chest, then you can put candy or some more significant surprise inside. Only this must be warned by the person to whom this gift is intended.
