DIY bench in the bathhouse

If a variety of building materials are used to build a bath, then accessories and furniture are made of wood. Benches are an important functional and decorative component of the interior of each bath. Benches are located in the lounge, dressing room, steam room. You can buy a bench already ready, or you can build it yourself.

How to make a bench in the bath yourself

Before you build a shop, you need to choose one of the options that is right for you. Just the dimensions and design features of the shops will depend directly on their purpose, location and other individual characteristics.

The main types of shops:

  1. Two-tier. These shelves are usually installed in the steam room. Benches are attached to a blank wall. Often, several of these structures are constructed.
  2. Three-tier. Mounted in spacious rooms. At the same time, from the upper shelf to the ceiling, a distance of at least 1.3 m must be observed.
  3. Small benches without back. They are used as footrests.
  4. Mobile benches. Most often installed in the dressing room.
  5. Wide shelf. Ideal for small rooms.

What does that require

For the manufacture of the following materials and tools will be required:

  • bars 55x55 mm;
  • board 55x650 mm;
  • moisture resistant glue;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • electric drill;
  • saw;
  • screwdriver;
  • sanding machine.

How to choose the right material

Not every wood species is suitable for bath furniture. It is necessary that the tree has a low thermal conductivity, has a good density, and be without cracks. Therefore, benches are usually made of linden, maple, oak, alder and other coniferous and deciduous species. Their characteristics allow the use of wooden products in conditions of high temperature.

Before you begin, you need to get acquainted with different types of wood species:

  1. Birch tree. Pretty heavy variety, has a density of 700 kg / cm3. Due to this, it does not accumulate moisture. It has an average thermal conductivity. Due to its good viscosity, it does not lend itself to deformation during temperature fluctuations; the material is easily processed. If birch benches are installed in the steam room, you will need a good ventilation system.
  2. Larch furniture can last a very long time, but the cost of the material is quite expensive.
  3. Pine. Most affordable. For the assembly of shelves, it is advisable to use high-quality bars: without blue and tarry pockets. The material has an average density. During prolonged temperature and humidity fluctuations, it cracks and deforms.
  4. It is very convenient to work with linden, while during heating this variety of wood begins to secrete beneficial substances.
  5. Meranti. Has a reddish tint, density 650 kg / cm3. Due to its density, wood does not heat up and withstands sharp temperature changes. The wood is smooth, almost without knots, quite easy to process.
  6. Oak benches will decorate any bathhouse. This is the best choice for those who can afford to spend a considerable amount on the design of the bathhouse. Oak products are very attractive and durable.
  7. Maple does not crack under the influence of temperature, has a low thermal conductivity.
  8. Abashi's tree retains its texture and color for a long time. This is an ideal material, but at a cost quite expensive.
  9. Aspen is inexpensive and has an attractive appearance. However, this tree species has one significant drawback - after a certain time, the bars begin to rot inside.

Attention! Benches in the steam room are usually made of hardwood. At elevated temperatures, the needles emit tar. For washing, the needles and alder are considered the best choice, since under the influence of moisture these varieties of wood become only stronger.

How to make measurements and drawings

The shelf, which is located in the steam room, most often has two structural parts: flooring and frame. Typically, shelves are built in multi-level, it is quite convenient, since hot air rises up, so it is possible to choose at what level it is steamed, from above, where is hot air, or from below, where it is cooler.

According to the dimensions, benches are selected taking into account the size of the room.

Most often, the following dimensions are chosen:

  • shelf width - 70-100 cm;
  • the width of the lower shelf is not less than 45 cm;
  • length - 165-190 cm;
  • the lower bench must be located at a height above the floor not less than 35 cm;
  • the upper bench must be located at a distance from the ceiling of no less than 125-130 cm (this distance will enable the steam worker to use a broom, without risk of injury);
  • step between floors of shelves 50-70 cm.

Important! Pre-drawn diagrams and drawings can help determine the optimal options for benches and their arrangement.

For example, if the room is quite large, then you can equip three-tier shops. The upper tier may be slightly longer than the lower. There may also be removable structures; they are best suited for small rooms.

Shelves need to be installed against a wall that does not have openings and ventilation holes. Be sure to maintain a safe distance between the bench and the stove-heater. Most often, shops are set opposite each other.

Important! During the installation of benches under them, you need to leave some space for air circulation and ease of cleaning.

How to assemble a bench: step by step instructions

The process of assembling a bench with your own hands is as follows:

  1. First you need to cut the bars into the required parts (4 parts of 60 cm for the legs, 2 parts of 70 cm for the vertical partitions).
  2. A U-shaped frame is assembled from the cut elements.
  3. After that you need to cut the rail of the required size (for convenient location on the shelf, it is best to measure a length of at least 150 cm).
  4. Next, they prepare the prepared parts of the bars on the jumpers.

During the assembly of the shelves, it is imperative to leave 1 cm gaps between the rails, this is required for condensate to drain and the shelves to dry after completion of the procedures. For better stability of the shelves, they can be strapped with slats that remained after the construction of benches.

It is forbidden to process shelves with any chemical compounds (paint, varnish), since the use of furniture involves the contact of wood with leather at elevated temperatures. There are many photos on the Internet that show different models of benches in a bathhouse.

By building benches yourself, you can be completely sure of the quality of the material used. At the same time, the dimensions and the chosen design are ideal for the rest of the bath accessories and fit into the design of any room, since the furniture is made according to its own measurements.
