How to turn off the water heater

Usually, in the spring-summer period, a wave of crimping starts in Russia, which is accompanied by a shutdown of hot water supply. In some homes, the lack of hot water can last up to several months. This situation forces owners to install water heaters.

How to turn off the water heater

A heater is a device that makes cold water hot using liquid, solid or gaseous fuels and delivers it directly to the consumer. The instructions attached to the unit always contain a detailed description of the connection procedure, and the process of disconnecting the boiler must be carried out independently. Next, we will consider in more detail the steps that must be taken to properly turn off the heater.

For a while

There are circumstances when it is necessary to turn off the boiler for a certain period:

  • launch of hot water supply;
  • long vacation;
  • technical breakdown;
  • at night to save electricity.

In these cases, when there is no need for dismantling, then additional tools are not required.

First you need to put the controller on the control panel in the "Off / OFF" mode, then turn off the water heater from the network and perform manipulations with three taps:

  • shut off the supply of cold water to the boiler;
  • close the outlet of the heated liquid from the tank;
  • open the faucet with hot water on the riser, which delivers it directly to the faucet.

REFERENCE! If a small amount of liquid remains in the boiler, but there is no need to drain it if the downtime is short.

Followed by dismantling

For subsequent dismantling of the water heater, additional tools will be needed:

  • wrench;
  • pliers;
  • tank for draining fluid from the tank.

Before starting the dismantling, it is necessary to perform the same steps sequentially as when disconnecting the boiler for a while. The only difference is that the water from the tank must be drained, for this it is necessary to unscrew the valve, remove the hose from the tap that supplies cold water, install a rubber hose instead and drain the contents into a specially prepared container or directly into the sewer.

The next step is to disconnect the thermostat, the electrical part of the device and remove the heater from the mounts.

When the water heater is turned off

The reasons why you want to turn off the water heater can be different: from saving energy to carrying out the necessary preventive measures, and therefore the duration of the shutdown varies from several hours to several months.

How to turn off the water heater when supplying hot water

The most common reason for installing boilers is the lack of hot water. If at the moment the boiler is no longer necessary and you need to turn it off before the next emergency, then the action plan will be as follows:

  • turning off the device on the control panel;
  • disconnection from the outlet;
  • full release of the tank from the liquid;
  • closing the valves that supply cold and hot water to the tank;
  • inclusion of the crane with hot water on a riser.

How to turn off the boiler at night

If in the morning you take a shower or use hot water for other purposes, then you need to wake up in advance to turn on the boiler, since the process of heating the water takes time. On average, it takes about 2 hours for the fluid to warm up and be at the right temperature. If in the morning there is no need for hot water, then turning off the tank at night will save energy.

Disabling methods depend on the type of control:

  • mechanical requires transferring the regulator to the "Off" mode and disconnecting from the network;
  • the electronic one is turned off after pressing the special "Off" button, on it you can set the timers that will put the boiler into sleep mode at night, and turn it on and heat up the water when it wakes up.

How to turn off the water heater for a long time

The most important thing when turning off the heater for a long period is getting rid of the liquid in the tank, because if you leave the liquid inside, it can oxidize, scale, bacteria multiply and, as a result, shorten the life of the device.

IMPORTANT! If the room is not heated (for example, a summer residence), then the presence of water in the tank can lead to freezing of the liquid and rupture of the boiler. It can be drained thanks to a tee, tap or relief valve. A boiler with a volume of 80 liters will merge no more than 2 hours, after which it is possible to carry out dismantling.

After connecting the boiler after a long period of inactivity, treat it with special anti-corrosion agents.

If you are not sure that you can turn off the system yourself, then entrust this matter to professionals. Be sure to comply with safety requirements, especially when draining water and disconnecting the device from the mains.
