What is CISS at MFP

Many printer users have not even heard of such a necessary thing as CISS. But with its help, you can easily solve the problem of pouring ink into a cartridge. Now more about this.

CISS - Continuous Ink Supply System

The ink supply system is a very convenient tool in printers. It allows you to immediately fill ink cartridges as soon as they run out. Since the ink cartridge is constantly working and receiving ink, it needs to be constantly fed.

What is CISS

CISS stands for Continuous Ink Supply System for Inkjet Printer. The action is as follows: ink is supplied from the tanks to the print head. Tanks (there are several of them, because each tank is designed for a different color) with ink is connected to a flexible silicone loop from tubes, a cartridge (instead of it, an analog can be a small container or a capsule).

IMPORTANT! The entire system is designed to maintain a constant ink set pressure. This is an important condition, since the performance of the head depends on this.

There are 2 holes at the top of the tank. One is for ink, the other is for air and vacuum compensation. Basically, during operation it is closed by an air filter so that the dust does not clog the nozzle of the print head.

The ink supply system is used to reduce the cost of printing. If you adhere to a certain level of printing, do not let it fall below a predetermined level, then you can print color photos in whole bundles! And the cost of printing will decrease several times.

CISS connection

The installation of a continuous feed system should be entrusted to experienced computer programmers or programmers. Firstly, they have experience, and secondly, users who have tried it themselves think so (but, probably, unsuccessfully!).
In general, the buyer, before installing the CISS on the MFP or printer, must understand the responsibility of the sellers and the person who will directly perform the installation. If something breaks, then they will have to be responsible and reimburse expenses. It is important to discuss this in advance.

When there is no way out and the user wants to install the system on his own, he can only wish for patience. It’s good, of course, to collect according to instructions or recommendations from the Internet.

In fact, connecting is simple. You just need to connect the containers to the cartridges, and fill the cartridges with paint. For air to escape, open the bypass valve.

Attention! Do not allow air to enter the print head. This should be closely monitored. And if this still happened, then only the service center will help.

Not all modern printer models and types support CISS. They must have some characteristics. For example, it is recommended to buy printers without a sponge inside and with a separate PG. A good option would be to purchase a printer from brands such as: Canon, Epson, Brother, and DesignJet.

Pros and Cons of CISS

Like any device, CISS has its pros and cons. It’s probably better to first understand the pros.
