From what year do TVs support digital television?

Recently, statements from business representatives in the field of television about the complete rejection of analog broadcasting and the total transition to digital format have been heard more and more often. The question immediately arises: "And who will be able to watch programs in a new format and what to do for those who have analog equipment?" Let’s try to answer it and at the same time to understand modern teletechnologies.
First, we will find out when manufacturers began to offer consumers products in a new direction, from which year, and then we will analyze what this data transmission on the air represents.

In what year began to produce digital TV models

After the invention of television, at the beginning of the last century, and the launch of mass production of equipment for viewing images in the late 30s, televisions were constantly improved and improved. And already in the early years of this century, technology has completely embarked on a digital footing.
Manufacturers completely abandoned the release of models with picture tubes and switched to plasma technology. Having quickly conquered the consumer market, "plasma" began to give way to LCD - screens.

Another breakthrough was made in the late 00s. The new OLED image transmission format using quantum dots has allowed to increase the size of the screen without losing the color quality. The era of digital television has begun.

The countries of the world have begun to completely switch to the "figure". As for Russia, it is generally accepted that it came to us in 2009.

Which models support this signal

To date, all produced TV models are adapted to receive digital broadcasts.
Those who purchased equipment more than 5 years ago should refer to the technical passport for the model. If the instructions indicate the standard DVB-T2, then the TV is designed to receive the desired signal in the CIS countries. The abbreviation DVB-T refers to the European broadcast format.

IMPORTANT. For those regions of the country where the digital network has not yet been launched, these models also allow receiving an analog television signal.

What is digital television?

This format, from analog, differs in the way the signal is processed. It is encrypted and compressed into packets for transmission. With this method, the signal is protected from external interference and transmitted without distortion. For him, the statement is true: "Either the image quality is 100% or it is not at all."

Advantages and convenience of "numbers":

  1. Due to the compactness of the signal, the required power for television transmitters is reduced. Accordingly, less electricity is consumed.
  2. With packet transmission, it became possible to increase the number of channels on one frequency range.
  3. There are functions to return to the start of transmission, recording and pending viewing.

Disadvantages (fixed by developers):

  1. The signal passes poorly during a thunderstorm.
  2. If the reception level is small, it is possible that the image is fading and scattering into pixel squares.

With a small number of shortcomings, digital broadcasting is better, lower in cost and energy consumption. At the same time, new opportunities, the number of which will only expand, make the "figure" more convenient and attractive to the consumer.
