Drying the cellar with a heat gun

When the cellar is damp, many products can deteriorate, which will lead to rather large material losses. But there are special devices that can help in drying the cellar. One of them is a heat gun.

What is a heat gun

The heat gun is an indispensable helper of a person in maintaining the optimal air temperature in an unheated or poorly heated room. In fact, it is a small metal cylinder with sensors and a heating element inside. Due to its characteristics and small size, the device is able to quickly and economically heat a room of any size. There are many types and types of such devices, so they have their own classification.

They are usually used in industry or in everyday life. Here, the main difference is the engine power and the size of the unit. It is obvious that household guns operate at home, where the premises are small, and industrial produce for production warehouses.

Principle of operation

The principle of operation of the heat gun in the air stream that passes through the fan and a special heating element, and goes out through the adjustable damper.

Since the device works due to the heating element, and depending on its type, the guns are divided into:

  • multi-fuel (very multi-functional, work on any type of fuel, they can often be met in car services);
  • gas (work on propane or butane, are considered the most dangerous units for domestic use);
  • diesel (the most expensive type of heat guns, very mobile due to light weight);
  • infrared (heat the entire room or a specific area, work using infrared radiation);
  • electric (very environmentally friendly, work from the network and significantly save electricity).

In garages and residential premises, gas and infrared appliances are most effective, as they are very easy to use, operate quietly, are as economical as possible, and do not require maintenance. It is better to take a multi-fuel cannon to a workshop or production warehouse, it perfectly processes all waste products of any technical oils and their mixtures.

Attention! It does not matter if there is a ventilation hole in the cellar or not, after the room has completely dried up, it is necessary to treat the walls with a fungus and mold.

How to dry a cellar with a heat gun

Drying the cellar is an important process before preparing for the winter period, because the safety of products depends on this. To dry well the cellar there are few ventilation shafts and daily airing. During the spring and autumn periods, a large amount of condensate accumulates in the cellar, and the heat gun helps reliably and quickly eliminate it. It is necessary to thoroughly approach the choice of the unit, since it is forbidden to operate multi-fuel and diesel engines in small and closed rooms, and there is a cylinder for the gas “in the set”, which will take up a lot of space in the cellar. An infrared device is suitable, it is convenient to use and quickly warms up the area to the desired temperature. However, you must constantly monitor the process so that the wall does not overheat, otherwise the device will not be effective.

In the absence of ventilation

If during the design of the cellar the ventilation system was not provided, then it is necessary to make pipes in the ceiling or wall with access to the street. Then turn on the heat gun at full power. If there is water in the basement, then first you need to pump it out and take out all the things. Let the cellar stand for a couple of days with the doors open, thereby leveling the temperature in the cellar and on the street, and the drying process of the cellar will become much faster.

In the presence of ventilation

Before the drying process of the cellar, it is necessary to carry out some activities for its preparation. You should remove all cabinets and shelves, check the walls for mold and disinfect moldy areas. It is especially necessary to process corners and cracks.

After the walls are slightly dry, you can install a gun. The choice of device depends on the area of the room. At first, it is recommended to open all the ventilation holes and turn on the device at full power. The process in this case will last 3-7 days. If it is necessary to dry in the summer, on the contrary, it is worth closing the ventilation hatches and lowering the temperature in the cellar, then turning on the heat gun again.
