How to properly position the outlet under the hood in the kitchen

The correct location of the outlet for the hood affects the appearance of the kitchen and the convenience of using ventilation equipment. At the stage of designing and installing kitchen furniture, it is most convenient to choose a place to connect. In reality, you have to deal with different situations, including the installation of outlets after the repair and placement of furniture.

Which outlet is suitable for the hood in the kitchen

The easiest way to connect the hood is to use an extension cord. But the network cable, walking through the space of the kitchen work area, will create constant discomfort. It will interfere with the use of part of the desktop. To avoid negative emotions, the outlet is installed next to the hood.

First of all, you need to understand the type and type of electrical appliance that you want to install. Sockets are:

  • with grounding or without grounding;
  • overhead or built-in;
  • with additional features;
  • special purpose.

REFERENCE! For safety of use, modern kitchen hoods are grounded in the form of a third connection wire or plug with a special contact. This type of equipment requires the use of ground outlets.

There is no need for additional functions that allow you to turn off the appliance using the toggle switch, to highlight the junction of the plug. Therefore, current sources with additional and special functions are not used when connecting the hood.

It remains to make a choice between the built-in and overhead type of electrical appliance. It is possible to clearly determine its design only after determining the location of the outlet and the type of power cable to it. If this is a flush mounting, then you need to use a device of the same type. And when laying wires inside cabinet furniture and installing a current source in the cabinet, the use of an overhead outlet will be relevant.

ATTENTION! When choosing an electrical appliance, you need to pay attention to the material from which it is made and the build quality. The case must fit snugly against the mounting plate, and all parts of the outlet are made of heat-resistant plastic.

The correct location of the outlet for the hood in the kitchen

Installing a network source next to an overhead hood is the most common method of supplying electricity. Such a connection is conveniently performed at the design stage of the construction of kitchen walls. The construction state of the walls allows you to carry out the wiring of the electrical wire by a hidden method. With this arrangement, a hidden appliance is selected.

The current source is recommended to be placed at a height of 20-40 cm from the working plane of the hood on the left or right side of the duct. When choosing a side, ease of access to the appliance is taken into account. Some craftsmen try to hide it behind the duct so that the connection is not visible. But to turn on or off the hood from the network with such an installation will be extremely inconvenient. Aesthetic perception goes by the wayside, especially in the case of an urgent need for disconnection.

You can soften the visual perception of the current source located on the side of the hood. This requires due attention to its color and design when buying. Such a connection will be correct and secure.

In the case when you have to deal with installing the outlet on ready-made walls, an external wiring of the electric wire and the use of an overhead electric appliance are applicable. Hidden installation is more correct, but if we are talking about a wall tiled, then there are no other options.

When the gasket is open, in accordance with safety requirements, the electric wire is mounted in a special plastic corrugated braid. This will prevent accidental damage to the power cable.

REFERENCE! The use of special plastic fasteners contributes to the smooth and clear laying of the electrical network.

It is possible to lay by a combined method, i.e., hidden wiring and an overhead outlet or vice versa. Such a performance will not please the eye, but can only fulfill its intended purpose.

It is important to use an electric wire with a cross-section of 2.5 square mm and a socket rated for 16 A. This will save the consumer connection network in case of overloads or misuse. Most household hoods have enough operating current up to 10 A. But with power surges, the performance of the electrical part must have a margin of safety.

Installing the hood inside the top row of kitchen furniture will greatly simplify the way you connect to the electrical network. With this design of ventilation equipment for the kitchen, it is important to apply voltage to the top row using a hidden or open method. For this, a pencil case is often used, located close to the upper row of shelves.

Installation of electrical wiring inside the furniture will have to be done in a metal corrugation or a special fireproof plastic braid. The current source is installed in close proximity to the hood on the rear or side wall of the cabinet.

In accordance with safety requirements, the patch outlet must be installed on a fireproof base. As the latter, a dielectric plate of a larger area is used than the base of the electrical appliance by 10-15 mm on each side.

Such a connection would be the best from an aesthetic point of view. The technical features of using such an installation are less positive. Electrical wiring laid inside wood furniture or chipboard has a risk of fire. Strict adherence to the rules and norms for laying household electrical networks will minimize this risk.

There are different methods for connecting ventilation equipment in domestic premises: on twists, using an automatic machine or through a terminal block. Correct and safe in all respects is to connect the hood in the kitchen using a power outlet. Other methods have greater risks and less reliability.
