Anemostat

In residential, public, office and industrial premises, in order to ensure optimal air circulation and create a comfortable microclimate, various types of ventilation systems are mounted. Some provide fresh air, others serve to remove excess air.

There are ventilation systems operating in air heating mode. Here one of the components of such systems will be considered.

What is an anemostat? Term and definition

What can be associated with the word "anemostat"? For those who have not encountered this technical device, the first assumption will be medical equipment or something related to physics.

This is not so, but they will not be far from the truth. This design is one of the types of air distribution ventilation systems to provide air conditioning and controlled distribution of air flows inside the room.

The purpose of the anemostats. Why are they installed in the premises?

Along with ventilation grilles, diffusers, this design is designed to artificially control the movement of air masses through ventilation lines.

Lattices and diffusers, represent a static design designed for a certain volume and one direction of movement of the incoming air. The design of the anemostat is dynamic and provides the ability to control these indicators in manual or automatic mode.

Types of Anemostats

As noted, ventilation systems are designed to perform various functions. The design of the anemostat provides for its use in any systems.

Ventilation

This type provides ventilation of the room and the extraction of unpleasant odors from the room, while removing excess moisture inside the room with the air stream. Most often used in residential, office and public buildings.

Supply

Designed to supply fresh air, to maintain a comfortable microclimate indoors. They can be used to equip systems in any type of premises (residential, office, industrial). They can be used in air heating systems, both as a separate end part of the system, and as an element of prefabricated, prefabricated structures, including filters, fans, air heaters.

Supply and exhaust

According to its design, this type provides a combined combination of ventilation functions of the room (extractor hood, supply). Depending on the mode of use, this design is able to provide air flow or exhaust. Like the supply air, this design can be used in stand-alone ventilation systems, and as a part of the design of forced systems.

Types of anemostats in shape

The design of the anemostat is a housing, inside of which on an immovable or "floating" lamellas an adjustment screw is attached with a "plate" fixed to it. Depending on the intended mode of use, the plate may be convex or concave.

The convex shape (in relation to the room) ensures the effective passage of the air flow in the equipment to ensure exhaustion. The concave shape contributes to a more even distribution of air flow while providing an influx of fresh or warm air.

Unlike a grille or diffuser, this form creates a conical, circular diagram of the direction of air flow. When using designs with "floating" slats, it is possible to direct the movement of air in the optimal direction (along the walls, ceiling).

The choice of material depends on the type of room and operating conditions. The most common material for making anemostats is plastic. This is due to the physical and chemical properties of the material (low weight, strength, chemical inertness with respect to the environment).

For use in ventilation systems with forced air heating, preference is given to a structure made of metal (galvanized steel, aluminum). For lovers of art design, the design can be made of wood or some other material. But such designs are made exclusively to order.

How is an anemostat installed in a room?

Installation of the device can be performed in any part of the room where ventilation communications are installed or according to an approved project. But in practice, installation is usually carried out on a ceiling covering (suspended, suspended ceilings).

In the case of open systems of a rigid duct, the ventilation openings of which, as a rule, are located in the upper part of the wall, the installation is made on the wall, which does not affect the efficiency of the distribution of air flows inside the room.

Installation methods for anemostats

The design of the device provides ease of installation. The simplest is mounting on an open, rigid duct. Equipment suitable for the diameter of the ventilation hole is selected, inserted and mounted on a supporting structure.

You can install directly the product body or the case is mounted on a mounting flange mounted on the ventilation hole that is included with some product samples.

A more complex installation process is when installing one or more devices on ventilation communications. In the case of installation in the process of construction and finishing works, it is necessary to take into account that the increase in the number of ventilation holes due to the increase in the length of the laid air ducts practically eliminates the use of anemostats.

In the case of installation in a finished, equipped room on mounted ventilation ducts, the main problem is the accuracy of determining the location of the technological hole for installing the product.

Installation Instructions

In places where flexible air duct systems are output, a technological hole is drilled (sawn) with a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the ventilation duct. An anemostat housing is inserted into the duct opening. The extended part of the device in the form of a circle (cuff) is attached to the bearing surface with self-tapping screws or construction tape, depending on the coating material. A support structure with a decorative circle is installed in the housing. For reliable fixing, grooves and spacers are provided. The plate (shield) with an adjusting bolt is screwed into the supporting structure. It remains to adjust the necessary clearance for the efficient use of mounted equipment.

Useful Tips

It should be remembered that the installation of systems with automatic control is best done at the stage of construction and installation works. Otherwise, it will be necessary to carry out the repair again after laying the electric cable and installing the switch.

When installing during construction work, when the housing is installed during the installation of air ducts, and the rest of the structure is mounted after finishing work, the duct opening must be closed.

Popular manufacturers and models

Today, manufacturers supply quality products. Brands "ERA", "VENTS" produce products of all kinds. You should focus on the technical characteristics of the device, depending on the installation conditions and further operation. Marking gives an idea of the purpose of the structure, the brand of material from which it is made and the maximum diameter of the structure.

Conclusion

The use of anemostats, subject to all the instructions provided for installation and operation, allows you to create a comfortable microclimate in the room, which will positively affect the well-being of those present. In addition to this, it is also an opportunity to make original, decorative changes to the interior of the room.
