Office equipment, like many others, is quite finicky and fragile to handle, and its operation is inevitably associated with periodic minor malfunctions. Printers in this case are no exception. However, it is not at all necessary to take the device to service every time it detects a minor malfunction, since many problems can be eliminated independently. Depending on the printer model, the rollers that output and feed paper may be in different parts of it, however, they can mainly be found:
- Under the top cover of the printer
- On the front panel
- Above the lower feed tray
- In the feed tray itself

An Xerox Phaser 8870 printer will be considered as an example. To clean the rollers, prepare a soft, lint-free cloth and packing tape. Cleaning should begin with the output shafts. Getting to them is quite simple, as they are located directly under the output door on the top panel of the device. Contaminated parts must be thoroughly wiped with a prepared cloth.
Important! Rags for cleaning should be selected without lint in order not to contaminate the roller even more.
To clean the paper pick-up roller, you need to open the cover of the front panel of the device, and with the same cloth, gently wipe it from the ink settled on it. This device also has another roller, and it is located above the lower tray. In the upper part of the opening above it, you can find the latch, by opening which, you can remove the roller assembly that grabs the paper. The removed assembly can be cleaned with a packing tape by moving it several times along the adhesive side of the tape.
After cleaning, the part must be carefully inserted into all the grooves and inserted into place. Hearing a characteristic click, you can make sure that the node is fixed.

For its implementation, sprinkle on a sheet of paper prepared in advance several times with window cleaner, then insert the sheet into the device with the side moistened with the agent and turn on the printer. Holding the sheet with your hand and preventing the printer from “tightening” it, you need to wait for a message about the absence of paper in the device and repeat the operation a couple more times. The rollers cleaned in this way will quickly dry out and will be ready for work in a couple of minutes.
