Bedroom in pastel colors

Pastel is the first association that occurs in the head when mentioning the phrase "bedroom color". And the matter is not even in the "pastel-bed" association, but in the fact that this muted color scheme calms the nerves in the best possible way, relieves physical stress and relaxes.

What is pastel

Pastels are called colorful art crayons, which when painted create a dense, dull texture. There is little pigment in them, which during the production of chalk is strongly rubbed, therefore the color is unsaturated and muffled.

If you go to the color wheel, then the pastel palette - these are color options with low saturation and brightness. It is these characteristics that determine the place of color in the spectrum. In life, we create pastels by adding whitewash, and in the schedule, reducing brightness and saturation.

In the interior, pastel and its various variations are extremely often exploited by architects and designers due to the following characteristics:

  • Pastel blends perfectly with a variety of colors in compositions and contrasts.
  • You can dilute color combinations with pastel, increasing the number of colors in the composition almost to infinity.

What pastel colors can be used in creating a bedroom design

For a beautiful and modern bedroom design, any pastel shades are suitable. And, what is most interesting - pastel colors can be implemented in almost every style of interior - from Provence and country to the loft and the Scandinavian hyugge. But in the design process, the selection of finishes, furniture and decor, you need to take into account certain circumstances that will help create a truly unique interior.

How to combine pastel colors

When creating color compositions with pastel tones, despite their absolute, as it would seem, compatibility, it is worth following the rules:

  • Pastel shades go well with the so-called neutral colors - black, white, gray, dark blue, beige, khaki, brown, ivory.
  • Designers often use a tool like Ethan's color wheel to match colors. On this circle, the colors are arranged according to the rainbow spectrum with an increase in the saturation of each color from the center to the edge. So, if you transfer the rules of color composition to this circle, then it is believed that the colors look good: 2 colors, located next to or diagonally; 3 colors - located through 3; 4 colors spaced 2 apart.
  • The pastel goes well with the brightly saturated colors of its spectrum - a monochrome bedroom, made in pale blue and bright blue shades, will look just amazing.

How not to make a bedroom in pastel colors faceless

Firstly, for a person with excellent taste restraint never looks faceless. And secondly - if you want to add a twist to such an interior - there are lots of ways to do it professionally and audaciously. Here are a few of them:

  • Play with the textures of parts and materials. You can complete the entire interior in one shade, but at the same time add brutal details to the delicate range. For example, a bedroom in coffee or beige color will be “diluted” with a chair with genuine leather upholstery, or dyed sheepskin, carelessly thrown on the floor or on the bed, or even faux fur “under the llama” with a long wavy pile. In a white bedroom, you can use an aged floor board and door leaf, and an imaginary “scuff”, peering through a layer of paint, will add naturalness, erase the sense of sterility that this color scheme causes. But bed linen made from crumpled boiled natural linen generally looks very textured and rich.
  • Add vibrant details. For example, buy not plain curtains, but make them from several panels.
  • Experiment with styles. Pastel is not only an empire classic. This can be a minimalistic Scandinavia, a rich shabby chic, or even a rough loft.
  • Focus on the extraordinary forms. Instead of an ordinary bed, choose a soft round catwalk bed, and instead of a dressing table-dressing table - a large full-length mirror with installation on the floor. Replace the three-winged cabinet with a rail, and the bench with a frameless chair or pouffe, or even a soft window sill.

The basic rules for creating a bedroom design in pastel colors

Light and pastel colors always visually expand the room, because this gamut will especially benefit the narrow room. For a narrow bedroom, it is recommended to use a cold gamut of halftones, while it is not necessary to design the entire room in one shade. For example, a combination of bedding and curtains looks very beautiful. For a spacious room, you can use both warm and cold shades.

It is better to give preference to matte and rough textures - they increase the color temperature and do not give that cold glossy shine that creates a feeling of coldness and estrangement. But sometimes, when you need to make a room on the south side cooler - use shades of blue, gray and white.

IMPORTANT! Do not litter the bedroom. The abundance of white, pink and blue does not mean that the room can be filled to capacity with white angels, pink photo frames or blue feathers. The abundance of small details immediately takes us 15 years ago, when classic pastel interiors were just coming into fashion. But you don’t want your bedroom to look like a renovation in the style of the 2000s.

How to make a bedroom interior in pastel colors with white furniture

The completely white bedroom has a very positive point - this design creates a feeling of cleanliness, impeccability and style. The eye does not get tired, there is a feeling of flying and lightness. But in order to avoid the shade of "hospitalization", you need to add several color spots, or enter 1-2 accent colors from a pastel palette. For example, in a white Scandinavian bedroom a minimalistic ikebana from branches or reeds will look very stylish. Monotony can be diluted with different textures.

If the bedroom has white furniture, then the colors can be added to the walls, or the tandem "half-ceiling", or "bed curtains". The third color in monochrome will be very beautifully introduced in the form of a bright accent spot - for example, an abstract oil painting, or unusual wall clocks, wall panels or armchairs with bright upholstery. It is not worth fading, as in a patchwork - trend and accent colors should be balanced.

How to design a bedroom in pastel colors with dark furniture

In such a bedroom, it emphasizes just the furniture, because the background should be as plain and calm as possible. Moreover, furniture does not have to be “pressed” into the walls. The pastel space is capacious enough to "push" the physical boundaries of the interior, so do not squeeze it by arranging dark furniture along the contour. The decor selected in accordance with the color wheel will look very stylish. For example, in a white bedroom with brown furniture, you can put an olive ceramic vase with ethnic ornaments or hang an oil painting.

Organization of lighting in the bedroom

The sizes of chandeliers, lamps, floor lamps, as well as their number, must be strictly proportional to the size of the room. In a small room it is also dangerous to overdo it with the amount of light, as in a large room - to undersize. All important points in the bedroom should be "highlighted" - a basic chandelier on the ceiling, dim lights at the head of the bed, spotlights near the mirror. Do not neglect the decorative lighting - spotlights scattered on the podium, in the ledges of the walls and on the ceiling will create a spicy play of light and shadow, which will create an additional game of shades.
